Question 11. If a shopkeeper sells some plastic chairs for Rs. 1296, he will make a profit of 8%. But he sells them at a loss of 5%. What is his selling price?

Given: i) Selling price = Rs. 1296 and ii) Profit= 8%.

We know Cost Price -\frac{5}{100}*Cost Price

or \frac{1296 - Cost Price}{Cost Price}\ast100=8<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

or, 12600 - 100*Cost Price = 8*Cost Price

or, 108* Cost Price = 129600<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />

or, Cost Price = 1200

So, Cost Price = Rs 1260.

Now if the shopkeeper sells at a loss of 5%, the selling price =Cost Price -\frac{5}{100}*Cost Price

i.e. the selling price is = 1200 -60 = 1140.

So, the shopkeeper sold the plastic chairs for Rs. 1140.
